Provo traffic, students and visitors
Provo is the Utah County seat and home to Brigham Young University. I-15 runs along the city’s west side, University Avenue and University Parkway are its main arterials, and Center Street runs through downtown. The UVX bus rapid transit line connects Provo and Orem. US-189 leads up Provo Canyon toward Sundance and Heber.
Dense student neighborhoods mean many pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders sharing the road with cars. Canyon driving brings its own risks: curves, wildlife, winter conditions and heavy weekend traffic. Each of these can affect how fault is assigned after a crash.
Care and documentation
Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital in Provo is one of the region’s main hospitals, and urgent care clinics are spread across the city. Prompt treatment protects your health, and it creates the medical record your claim depends on.
If you rent, and your injury happened in a building or parking lot, report it to the landlord or business in writing and keep a copy. Premises claims depend on what the owner knew and when.
Why Utah County clients use a Draper firm
Our office is a straight drive up I-15 from Provo, and much of the work never requires a visit at all. We handle Fourth District cases and Utah County insurers routinely. What matters most is the standard: a named case manager, a standing response window, and honest advice about what your case is worth, including when it isn’t worth pursuing.
What the law means for your claim
Utah generally allows four years to file a negligence claim (Utah Code § 78B-2-307), two years for wrongful death (§ 78B-2-304), and only one year to file a notice of claim when a government entity is involved (§ 63G-7-402). Under Utah’s modified comparative fault rule, you can recover only if the other side’s fault exceeds yours, and your recovery is reduced by your share (§ 78B-5-818). At 50% you recover nothing.
If a Provo case has to be filed, it goes to the Fourth Judicial District Court, whose Provo courthouse is at 137 N Freedom Blvd (there is also a courthouse in American Fork). Most claims settle without a trial, but we build every file so it is ready if one is needed.
