Where Murray’s crashes happen

Murray is in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. I-15 runs through it, I-215 crosses its southern edge, and State Street, 4500 South, 5300 South and 900 East carry heavy retail and commuter traffic. TRAX light rail and FrontRunner commuter rail both stop in Murray, adding rail crossings, transit stations and pedestrians to the mix.

Rear-end crashes on State Street, left-turn collisions at busy arterials, and pedestrian injuries near transit stations are all common patterns. If a UTA bus or train is involved, Utah’s Governmental Immunity Act notice-of-claim rules apply, and they move much faster than an ordinary claim.

A major trauma center is here

Murray is home to Intermountain Medical Center, one of the valley’s largest hospitals. If you were taken there after a crash, keep every discharge summary and bill. They become key evidence of your injuries and your damages.

Ask for the police report number at the scene or from the hospital, and write down what you remember while it is fresh: the direction of travel, signals, weather, and anything the other driver said.

Using PIP and health insurance together

After a Murray crash, Utah PIP on your own auto policy is usually the first payer for medical bills and some lost wages. Health insurance may cover care beyond PIP, and both may have reimbursement rights out of any settlement. We track every lien and bill so the numbers in your settlement are accurate, and we explain exactly what you take home before you agree to anything.

What the law means for your claim

Utah generally allows four years to file a negligence claim (Utah Code § 78B-2-307), two years for wrongful death (§ 78B-2-304), and only one year to file a notice of claim when a government entity is involved (§ 63G-7-402). Under Utah’s modified comparative fault rule, you can recover only if the other side’s fault exceeds yours, and your recovery is reduced by your share (§ 78B-5-818). At 50% you recover nothing.

If a Murray case has to be filed, it goes to the Third Judicial District Court, which hears Salt Lake County cases at the Matheson Courthouse (450 S State St) and the West Jordan courthouse (8080 S Redwood Rd). Most claims settle without a trial, but we build every file so it is ready if one is needed.
