Glendale’s corridors and event traffic

Glendale stretches from central Phoenix’s west side out to the Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway). Grand Avenue (US-60) cuts diagonally through the city alongside a freight rail line, creating unusual six-way intersections. Glendale Avenue, Bell Road and 59th and 67th Avenues are busy arterials.

Major events at State Farm Stadium and Desert Diamond Arena bring large crowds, pedestrians and impaired-driving risk to the Westgate area. Diagonal intersections on Grand Avenue confuse drivers who don’t know them, which leads to angle collisions.

Care, reports and the courthouse

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is in Glendale, along with other hospitals and urgent care clinics. Get evaluated and follow through with treatment.

The Maricopa County Superior Court operates its Western Regional Center at 6655 W Glendale Ave. Glendale Police handle most city crashes, while DPS usually covers the Loop 101.

Commercial and freight traffic

Grand Avenue’s rail line and the Loop 101 bring freight and delivery traffic through Glendale. A crash with a commercial vehicle may involve the driver, the employer and sometimes a maintenance or loading company, each with its own insurer. We send preservation letters early so driver logs, onboard data and video are not lost, and we keep you updated as we go.

What the law means for your claim

Arizona’s general deadline for injury claims is two years (A.R.S. § 12-542). If a city, county or state entity is involved, a notice of claim is due within 180 days and the lawsuit within one year (A.R.S. §§ 12-821.01, 12-821). Arizona uses pure comparative fault (A.R.S. § 12-2505), so your recovery is reduced by your share of fault but not eliminated by it.

Lawsuits are filed in the Maricopa County Superior Court, whose main courthouses are on Jefferson Street in downtown Phoenix, a few minutes from our office. Most claims resolve through negotiation, but we prepare each case as though it could be tried.
